North West has a more documented, more glamorous, more bizarre life than most other toddlers. For example, this week it was revealed that North’s downtime is significantly more regimented than the average two-year-old’s because as well as being a tap dance and ballet aficionado, she has a personal trainer.

As a toddler, she obviously doesn’t have a whole lot of autonomy when it comes to her hobbies and routines, and so her personal training sessions are often tacked on to her mother’s workouts; apparently, Kim Kardashian “has one of her guys work out with North at the end of her session, once or twice a week”, a “source” tells Radar.

“They teach her fun stuff like stretches and other basic aerobics, nothing strenuous.” Is stretching fun? What does basic aerobics mean for a two-year-old? Is a squishy toddler even capable of strenuous activity? Do babies sweat, actually, now that I come to think of it? So many questions…

While most babies and toddlers must settle for Tumble Tots, personal trainers for children have become “a thing”.

Yelena Paul, a personal trainer for women and children and the founder of Mango Fitness, says: “Depending on language, attention span, communication skills, and  cognitive readiness, a child could start at around two years – two times a week for 20 minutes…”

And what exactly would a two-year-old be doing in these sessions? “Cognitive exercises would be priority, as they easily boost physical abilities for the future,” Paul says, “catching, holding skills, running – within a game setting.”

So that’s what North West is up to: throwing and catching.
